5 Popular Bad Acting Tips
There’s a lot of outdated acting advice floating around.
And some of it sounds smart.
Professional.
Even responsible.
But if you follow it during an agent meeting?
You could ruin the relationship before it even starts.
Let’s clean this up.
👇 Watch the full breakdown here:
Actors struggle because they don’t understand business.
And when you don’t understand business, you ask the wrong questions.
Here are five popular “tips” that can backfire when asked ~ especially when meeting with agents…
1. “Are You SAG Franchised?”
This used to matter more.
It does not matter the way it used to.
Many top commercial agencies are not SAG franchised.
Asking this question can immediately signal:
You don’t understand the current industry landscape.
You’re relying on outdated advice.
You haven’t done your homework.
Reputation matters more than franchise status.
Always.
2. “Do You Have Good Relationships With Casting Directors?”
What do you expect them to say?
“No, not really”?
They’re going to say they work with everyone.
And then they’re going to flip it:
Which casting directors do you know?
What relationships are you bringing?
It’s a business partnership.
If you’re not bringing value ~ don’t interrogate.
3. “How Many Clients Do You Have My Type?”
It doesn’t matter.
Actors skip auditions.
Actors go on hiatus.
Actors get pregnant.
Actors conflict out.
The only question that matters is:
Will they service you properly?
If they called you in, they see potential.
That’s the signal.
4. “How Much Do You Believe In Me?”
This irritates agents.
Belief grows with results.
Callbacks.
Avails.
Bookings.
They believe in you enough to meet you.
The rest is earned.
“Do I Have to Like My Agent?”
This one surprises actors.
No.
You don’t need to like them.
You need them to be effective.
Some of the most successful agents in Los Angeles are not warm.
Not sweet.
Not charming.
But they get their actors auditions.
Would you rather have:
An agent you love who never calls?
Or an agent who’s tough ~ but gets you booked?
This is business.
Not friendship.
“Actors don’t make it because they’re just not good business people.”
